On September 30th, Teulon Elementary will fly the Survivor’s Flag in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The Survivor’s Flag is a meaningful symbol of remembrance, resilience, and hope. It honours residential school Survivors and the children, families, and communities whose lives have been impacted by the residential school system. It also recognizes the strength and ongoing healing of Survivors, families, and communities.
As a school community, we understand that learning about residential schools and their legacy can bring forward a range of emotions and experiences. We approach this learning with care, respect, and compassion, recognizing that every person’s experience and response is different.
By flying the Survivor’s Flag, we are creating space to remember, to listen, to learn, and to honour the stories and experiences of Survivors. We remain committed to building a school community grounded in relationships, belonging, respect, and the ongoing work of Truth and Reconciliation.
